Friday the 13th, unlucky for some, but luckily for me, I was invited to the Manchester launch of Roo Oxley’s number one best selling book CLOBBER! An event that will go down in the annals (or should I say canals) of casual history “GET THE BARGE IN”!
As you may have guessed the venue for this historic event was aboard a beautiful old canal barge sailing out of Manchester’s Castlefield district, and what a night it was!
The evening kicked off at the rallying point BA CA for a few drinks and a meet and greet, then it was all aboard for a night of fun and frolics along Manchester’s historic waterways.
While the drinks were flowing and the tunes were pumping I set about mingling with some of the illustrious guests including, acclaimed photographer Richard Kelly, Professor Andrew Groves, Neil Summers, James Darby and the star of the show Miss Roo Oxley!
All of the aforementioned clobberati were amongst some of the nicest people that I have ever had the pleasure to meet. Each one a warm, friendly and humble character. And I must say, it really is truly humbling to meet such humble people, people who’s fame, success and reputation hasn’t changed them one bit!
I was also delighted to finally meet in person some of my social media Casual friends, including Mr Stoned Love himself Scott Graves, and Brentford stalwart Del Cleveland (owner of the revered Adidas Loft)!
As well as the amiable guests, classic dance tunes and endless amounts of booze, there was plenty of top notch clobber on show from well dressed and likeminded lads and lasses, all brought together in one place to celebrate the release of Roo’s superb book.
Once back on dry land there was time for a few more drinks, and then finally time to say our goodbye’s.
I think Roo just needs to write another book now, so that we can do it all over again!
If you haven’t done already, you can buy a copy of Clobber here.
